Since 2012, GRIT has been encouraging girls to appreciate themselves and be involved in the world around them. We offer a unique opportunity to bring girls from all walks of life together to learn from each other, share their stories, and appreciate their own special style and gifts.

Our Approach

GRIT is for girls age 6 - 22 that encourages participants to love themselves, connect with others, and be involved in their community. We use creativity to encourage these girls to explore and own their own unique gifts and talents while celebrating the greatness of others. Each girl will walk away with a GRIT journal, a GRIT accountability partner, and new appreciation of themselves and their relationships.

GRIT workshops can be for any group of girls, from a Girl Scout Troop to a basketball team.

Courses are offered in 4 or 8 hour sessions.

Our Story

GRIT began in 2012 in East London, South Africa, inspired by a powerful moment of connection. While volunteering at Hope Prep, a school for children affected by HIV/AIDS, our team spoke with a 7-year-old girl about her dreams for the future. She hesitantly shared that she wanted to be a cleaner—a reflection of the limited possibilities she saw in her world.

As we highlighted her unique talents, we witnessed her perspective shifting. Her eyes lit up with new possibilities, and she left the conversation aspiring to become a teacher. That experience left an indelible mark on our team, sparking a mission to inspire young girls to recognize their potential and embrace their strengths around the globe.

Since then, GRIT has worked to empower girls to celebrate what makes them extraordinary, whether big or small.

Though the challenges girls face vary across the world, the underlying truth remains the same: encouragement, belief in oneself, and a supportive community can make all the difference. At GRIT, we aim to be part of that positive change, one girl at a time.

What WE TEACH

Each of these areas is explored through exercises, writing, discussion, art or team-building activities:

  • The beauty of imperfection.

  • How to connect with the world.

  • Others' success isn't your failure.

  • Find yourself and be yourself.

  • Social media isn't real.

  • Own your gifts and talents.

  • Reflect and utilize feelings of power and pride.

  • Take risks! Expand your comfort zone.

  • Failing doesn't equal failure.
